Averaged over the platforms, tourism board sites make up 15.3% of all citations, and sites that have not been classified make up 17.7%.

At the bottom of the ranking, Massachusetts, USA's own official sites supply 0.0% of the sources cited for it.

How it is measured

Control is the share of the sources AI cites for a destination that are the destination's own official sites, such as its tourism board.
Only sources cited in answers with web search on count. Pages a model looked at but did not cite are left out.
A destination is ranked only when it has at least 50 citations from 15 different answers; below that, its figures are shown without a rank.
Any official source counts every tourism board or government site, not only the destination's own.
Gemini and Grok answers show the sources their search tool returned; Claude and ChatGPT answers show links the model wrote. Combined figures mix the two, so compare platforms with that in mind.
